Antique Porcelain And China

I am having a garage sale and am thinking about including a set of China that is marked "New Rose, Hande Peinte, Made in Occupied Japan". The set includes six, 6-piece, place settings and four serving pieces. Everything is in near mint condition. The floral pattern is in rose, lavendar, and blue tones with a touch of yellow. How much should I ask for it? What is the least I should take for it?

---------------------

Well, this is an interesting question.

I think you'd do better *not* including it in your garage sale, and here's why

People who shop garage sales expect to pay rock-bottom prices. If I ran into your set at a garage sale, I'd want to get it for about $40. You'd probably like more than that.

Offer it to a dealer or two. Have a firm asking price in mind, like
$100, but be prepared to come down a little. One way to do this that meets with much success is to take a piece, like a saucer, to a flea market or antique show, and seek out the dealers who have porcelain and china in their booths.

At the antique show we did yesterday, we were offered a set of Noritake china (didn't buy it; too new), black Bauer ware (which we *will* buy), Fiesta (ditto), a plate rack (I never have enough), and some costume jewelry.
